Zoë Bailey, Administrator, Preventative Adaptation Service

Tell us about yourself.

I grew up in Leicestershire and now live in Nottingham with my husband and two children. I joined MHP in 2004 after working for 15 years at Alliance and Leicester.

In 2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had always had long straight hair, but during chemotherapy I shaved it all off - and I love it! I finished all of my treatment in May 2007.

What do you do in your position at MHP?

I am the Administrator for the Preventative Adaptation Service. We supply and fit low level home adaptations for people over 70 for a nominal fee of £10.

I give advice to residents, take referrals, arrange works and do the general administration for the scheme. I work in the Civic Centre which has great views over Nottingham.

What changes have you seen in your department?

When I started in 2004 the service was only operated within Rushcliffe Borough. In 2006 we expanded into Broxtowe & Gedling boroughs and began advertising our service publicly, so we now have a lot more work to do!

What are the best things about your job?

It makes me happy when I speak to our elderly residents, because our service really makes a difference to their lives.
