What makes us a great employer?

Hard work and mutual respect

You’ll be rewarded fairly at MHP by a challenging role and a comprehensive benefits package. But we expect a lot from our people because our customers expect a lot from us. We’ll need you to take responsibility for your work and show respect for colleagues, customers and your working environment. The MHP values provide a framework that defines what we expect from our people and what our people can expect from us. These values are:

  • Putting our customers first
  • Delivering best quality
  • Being business effective
  • Having care and concern for our employees

Equality of opportunity

From humble beginnings, MHP was founded to tackle the discrimination experienced by immigrants in the 1950’s unable to source high quality, low cost housing. Celebrating diversity is part of our DNA.

MHP clearly values diversity and promotes a culture where differences between people are respected and celebrated. The organisation believes that the skills, talents and experience offered by a diverse workforce goes right to the core of what MHP stands for; meeting the needs of a hugely diverse customer base. Fostering an environment where colleagues feel “themselves” at work is absolutely critical to operational performance and MHP is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in every aspect of its work; especially in the attraction, selection, development and retention of talent.

MHP strives to make its working environment free from discrimination for all employees. To make sure that the organisation continues to listen to the needs and desires of all our people, MHP reviews its employment practices to identify and address issues related to equality and diversity and eliminate any potentially discriminatory practices. 4 internal staff support groups exist to support MHP with this work:

  • Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Staff Group
  • Disability Staff Network (‘Ability.Net’)
  • MHP Women’s Forum
  • METRO - Staff Network for LGBT Staff. (MHP is recognised by Stonewall as one of the UK’s top 100 gay-friendly employers.)

We are positive about mental healthMindful employer

Granta Housing Society which is part of Metropolitan Housing Partnership is part of the Mindful Employer initiative. This initiative promotes awareness of mental health at work and provides support for businesses in recruiting and retaining staff.

Mindful Employer works with employers to help put good practices in place to ensure employees and job applicants who declare mental health issues receive the right level of support.

Being a Mindful Employer assists us to:

  • Embed legislation such as the Equality Act into our culture.
  • Retain staff and attract new staff who have experienced discrimination in the past and demonstrate to them that we support people who declare mental
    health issues.
  • Increase staff productivity and attendance.

We’re green

As a green employer we embrace environmentally sustainable principles. Our Sustainability team plays a critical role in informing our procurement policies, our housebuilding policies and everything else to do with the way we work or support our customers.
