Hallmark Community Housing association
Hallmark Community Housing Association is a specialist housing association established to meet the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities. The Association was set up in 1989 through the merger of three community organisations and in 2000, we joined the Walbrook Group and then Spirita in 2007 as a separately registered social landlord.
The Association is governed by a Board of Management consisting of ten volunteers. The Board has overall responsibility for setting the direction and monitoring the work of the Association. The Association consists of 30 member of staff spread over three different locations.
As well as providing rented accommodation to single people and families in Derby, we run a number of special projects. Our largest project is the Hadhari Nari Women's Project which provides support and accommodation to women and children experiencing domestic violence. The project includes two refuges and an advice centre which offers a variety of different services.Other special projects include a supported housing project for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
Approximately 60% of Hallmark residents and 46% of waiting list applicants are from BME communities. A BME Registered Social Landlord is an association where 80% of its board members are from a BME background. Most BME associations specifically target meeting the needs of BME communities. There approximately 65 registered BME associations in England. As Derby's BME population is approximately 17%, you can see that Hallmark is being successful at targeting the needs of BME communities. Hallmark aims to meet the needs of BME communities but we will assist anyone who approaches the Association who is in housing need.
