Russell Clarke, Head of Planned Maintenance, Spirita

Tell us about your job.

My job is to provide planned works to residential properties, working to the decent homes standard. My main achievements include leading on procurement issues and delivering the partnering contract for the menu modernisation programme.

Tell us about yourself.

I come from Bingham in Nottinghamshire. I’m 40 and I’m married with two kids. I joined Rushcliffe Homes (now part of Spirita) when it was created in 2003.

I trained as a plumbing and heating engineer, but after injuring my knees doing karate, I worked as an office-based supervisor while I recovered from several operations. I now do triathlon in my spare time and enjoy socialising with friends.

Why did you join the charitable housing sector?

It came towards me rather than me choosing it, but I have found a niche that I am happy with. I enjoy the work and fulfilment I get from providing a service that residents ultimately benefit from.

Do you enjoy your job?

I work in and with a great team who support me a great deal. I don’t have the amount of contact with the public I would like, but it’s good to be delivering a valued service for residents’ needs and wishes.
