Metropolitan Housing Partnership gets gold for being green

Metropolitan Housing Partnership (MHP) is celebrating achieving a Gold rating from the Mayor’s office. The Green500 carbon management scheme, run by the Greater London Authority, awarded MHP the gold rating for its contribution to sustainability and carbon management.

MHP joins an elite band of large London organisations and are the only housing association within the Green500 to have received the Gold standard rating. MHP joined the scheme in late 2009 and have been award Gold in its first assessment. The rating is determined by existing practice and also progress against a carbon opportunities action plan agreed with the Green500 team.

The scheme, funded by the London Development, is backed by the Mayor of London and aims to acknowledge action on climate change and support in achieving the Mayor’s target to cut emissions in the capital by 60 per cent by 2025.

Other members of the scheme include Marks & Spencer, Transport for London, Chelsea FC, Boots, and The Natural History Museum.

Matthew Bush, Sustainability Manager, says of the achievement: “This independent assessment and subsequent award recognise MHP’s approach and commitment to sustainability.”

He added: ““Sustainability is key to the long term stability and success of our organisation. We are making real progress in embedding sustainability in our work, providing thousands of affordable homes across London. Green500 gives us confidence in our efforts to do more for our customers and the environment.”

The gold rating follows a series of sustainability awards recently won by MHP which include the 24housing Retrofit Best Practice Award and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London Award for its development Bateman Mews in Clapham, South London.  MHP have also been shortlisted for Sustainable Housing Social Housing Provider of the Year – Innovative Approach to Green Homes Award.
