Metropolitan Housing Partnership, has today joined London’s premier carbon club by signing up to a pioneering carbon management scheme backed by the Mayor of London, the Green500, which aims to address carbon emissions and take action against climate change.

The Green500 is an environmental programme funded by the London Development Agency to support the Mayor’s target to cut emissions in the capital by 60% by 2025. The Green500 intends to bring together large organisations with a significant presence in London and encourage them to work together to reduce the city’s carbon emissions.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: ‘Metropolitan Housing Trust’s sign up is cracking news, helping to swell the ranks of the Green500. Homes are a major contributor to climate change emissions so it is vital that landlords take action to crack down on energy waste, helping their residents do the same. This will reap dividends for the environment whilst helping to trim fuel bills in difficult economic times.’

Matthew Bush, Sustainability Manager of Metropolitan Housing Partnership, said: “Sustainability is key to the long term stability and success of our organisation. We are making real progress in embedding sustainability in our work, providing thousands of affordable homes across London. Green 500 gives us extra support and recognition in our efforts to do more for our customers and the environment.”

Each organisation that signs up to the Green500 is assigned a dedicated carbon mentor who works alongside the signatory to develop a tailored plan to reduce their carbon footprint and save money. Signatories to date include Marks & Spencer, The London Eye, TfL, Chelsea FC, Boots, The Natural History Museum and more. The prestigious group will come together for an annual awards ceremony, hosted by the Mayor, who will present members with a Green500 certification to mark their achievements, as well as a variety of special awards for high achievers.
