Roundshaw Homes, London Borough of Sutton
Roundshaw Homes was set up in January 2001 by Hyde Housing Association and Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT) to manage the new housing and the remaining Council homes on the Roundshaw Estate in Wallington, Surrey.
Hyde and MHT have been working with Sutton Council since the mid-90's to regenerate Roundshaw. This work has included demolishing and rebuilding about half of the original homes on the estate We now jointly own 795 completed homes with Hyde. Around another 250 homes will be redeveloped for rent/shared ownership and 100 are proposed for outright sale in the final stages of the works programme. The delivery of the programme has been achieved with the strong support of residents and other stakeholders such as local schools. The Phoenix Centre, a flagship leisure complex, was opened in 2004 and features the Beehive Café, a social enterprise venture supported by MHT and Hyde.
The Centre provides a new focus for the neighbourhood, with youth sports/leisure and library facilities. Roundshaw remains one of the largest and most successful regeneration schemes supported by the Housing Corporation.
In December 2006 residents voted in favour of stock transfer and now the whole estate is owned and managed by Hyde Housing Association and Metropolitan Housing Trust(MHT) working in partnership as Roundshaw Homes.
The team at Roundshaw Homes cover all management and maintenance issues on the estate. There is also a community development team which works directly with local residents in areas such as developing community businesses.
Roundshaw Homes works closely with the Community Board, which is a forum for discussing the improvement of resident services and resident involvement for the estate. The Community Board currently includes eight elected members who are residents of the estate.
