Chalkhill, London Borough of Brent
Our major regeneration work in Chalkhill in Wembley has now finished. Working in conjunction with residents and partners at Brent Council and Wimpey Homes, we have completed the construction of 369 new homes.
Over ten years, Chalkhill has seen a complete physical rebuilding of the community. From an area that had many social problems amplified by poor housing, Chalkhill is now a bright, vibrant community with good housing, clean streets, open space, and access to services.
Our investment goes beyond buildings. We invest in our communities and have:
- made English as a second language (ESOL) classes available for Somali women
- supported parent and toddlers groups
- offered keep fit classes for the elderly
- worked with local primary school children
- offered training to local residents, helped find over 230 jobs and even created a new business
- established a Joint Development Board as a forum involving residents, local businesses, MHT, Brent Council and the Police
- set up a Community Trust Fund run by local stakeholders which has £500,000 available to benefit the community
- set up Health from Leisure, a community led project supported by Brent Primary Care Trust.
The final phase includes a community centre, Primary Health Care Centre, GP surgeries and a new public park.
Chalkhill represents a proactive and vibrant community wanting to influence its own local destiny, and this we believe is what community development and regeneration is all about.
