CASE STUDY: Edmonton Green - Giant achievement through partnerships

Edmonton GreenWhen we won the contract for Edmonton Green, we took on an eight-year, £100 million project involving complex funding and partnerships.

With London & Quadrant, we formed the partnership ‘Green Horizons’ to take the transfer of 1,312 homes from Enfield Council, following a successful ballot of residents in 1998. We secured funding from English Partnerships, Social Housing, the Single Regeneration Budget and private borrowing, as well as cross-subsidies from the sale of Edmonton Green shopping centre and other sites.

By April 2007, we had successfully refurbished 520 high rise flats in three towers above the shopping centre, demolished 734 homes (4 tower blocks and some maisonettes) and built 791 new affordable-rent homes.

Residents were involved throughout the regeneration process, with the Community Board in place to comment on all aspects of the scheme.

Green Horizons has won three awards for the Edmonton Green projects:

  • ROOM Planning award for excellence in Resident Involvement in Planning
  • National Housing Federation’s In Biz Sustaining Communities award
  • Housing Corporation Reaching Out Award for our Turkish-speaking resident involvement programme.
