MHP's new resident inspectors celebrate
Five Metropolitan Housing Partnership tenants will be celebrating a huge achievement on Friday 30 October. They will be presented with certificates recognising the fact that after a year's rigorous training they have qualified as resident inspectors.
The training programme was designed and run by specialist housing consultancy, HQN. Based on the short notice inspection methodology used by the Audit Commission and using the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs), the training required the tenants to conduct three inspections in MHP's business partners. The trainee resident inspectors began by inspecting access and customer care under supervision and then moved on to plan and conduct an inspection of gas servicing and asbestos management. They had to give a presentation of their findings to senior managers and then write a report with recommendations.
The five who have successfully completed the training are: Buki Adesanya, Flavien Agoyo and Yvette Rochester, all from London, and Ken Peachey and Ann Trentham from Nottingham.
Lydia Dlaboha, HQN's Executive Director of Performance Improvement, believes that the MHP initiative puts the company and these tenants at the cutting edge of the new co-regulation agenda. She commented:
"I know that Buki, Flavian, Yvette, Ken and Ann have all put a great deal of time, effort and energy into this. I have been really impressed by the reports and findings that they have produced. I hope that the good work continues and that you see the benefits – through improved services. Credit must go to MHP for supporting this initiative and making it possible."
At a special celebratory lunch in London, the resident inspectors will be presented with their certificates by Kate Russell, Director of Policy and Performance at MHP, who said:
"Our inspectors are making a real difference by giving us an in-depth residents’ perspective on how we can improve services. Staff have also found this very helpful, especially those who have had to be prepared for Audit Commission inspections.”
MHP and HQN now intend to work together on providing resident inspector training to other landlords.
