Memory lives on

A ceremony held in memory of the late Councillor Frank Clayton took place at an affordable housing scheme in Hatfield on Friday 23 October. The scheme, known as the Forum, is managed by Granta Housing Society.

Councillor Clayton’s daughter, Miss Jacqueline Clayton, and grandson, Mr Elliot Clayton were present, along with close friends. Councillors Maureen Cook and Colin Croft, and former Councillor Dennis Lewis, were also in attendance.

Clayton House, a building within the Forum, was named after the District and County Councillor to acknowledge the contribution he made to the Welwyn Hatfield community during his many years of service.

Phyllida Culpin, Managing Director of Granta Housing Society said: ‘’Councillor Clayton believed strongly in people having access to good quality, decent homes. We are committed to this and continue to invest in the Forum to ensure it remains a pleasant place to live.’’

The Forum, Granta Housing Society’s largest scheme in the Borough of Welwyn Hatfield, has recently had landscaping work done to the communal garden. The work was commissioned by Metropolitan Home Ownership, which is responsible for the low cost home ownership properties in the Forum, and was carried out by Metropolitan Support Trust’s Care & Repair team, which is a Home Improvement Agency. Residents also had the opportunity to take part in the landscaping.

Jacqueline Clayton said: ‘My father was a wonderful man who did all he could for the people of Welwyn Hatfield. He was passionate about housing, and would have been delighted that a building within such a well looked after scheme has been named after him.’
