MST walk the walk to raise funds for local charity
MST Support Services in Derby joined forces in a sponsored walk to raise money for the Derby based charity MIND. On 18 December 2008 Metropolitan Support Trust will be presenting the cheque to Derby MIND for the monies raised.
A total of £652 was raised and will go to Derbyshire MIND Rosehill Club for those who are experiencing mental health issues. Presenting the cheque will be Aleithia Brown, Operations Manager for MST Derby based services. The presentation of the cheque will take place at 2:45pm at the MIND office in Derby. Staff and service users from Hartington House, Edale House and Derby City Floating Support Services along with the manager of Derby MIND will be attending.
The 9 mile walk, which took place in September, took participants around Carsington Water and was completed in 4 hours and organised by Richard Draper, a MST service user and Joan Bell a support worker in the Floating Support team. Over 25 participants took part in the fund raiser consisting of both service users and staff from Floating Support Services, Edale House mental health unit and Hartington House direct access unit.
Aleithia Brown says of the walk ‘service users who took part in this walk said they felt a tremendous satisfaction from being able to give something back. Previous to our involvement with them they did not believe that they would have been able to even consider taking part in this kind of activity never mind actually taking part. It has given me and my team great pleasure to be able to be a part of this venture'.
