Metropolitan Housing Trust has hoops of hope for young people

On Monday 16 February, young people from the boroughs of Brent, Enfield, Southwark, Lambeth and Westminster will compete against one another in a one-day basketball tournament. Metropolitan Housing Trust London and Genesis Housing Group, are working in partnership to run the tournament for residents aged between 11-18. The competition will take place at the Sport and Performing Arts Centre (SPACe) in Hackney College between 11am and 5pm.

The tournament, aims to build London-wide community spirit by enabling young people from estates across London to meet and compete against one another. Previous competitions have seen four Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) come together for the project.

Michael Downie, Head of Community investment, MHT London says: “It’s great to see this type of cooperation amongst housing associations. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our expanding sports programme, and demonstrates how sport can break down the barriers that some young people face when interacting with other young people from different areas.”

Funded by Activate London, a Big Lottery funded project, the tournament is delivered as part of a wider Metropolitan Housing Trust London and Genesis Housing Group Community project
