Stonewall Workplace Equality Index sees Metropolitan move up the ranks
The recent release of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) 2008 highlights Metropolitan Housing Partnership (MHP) continues to make improvements in being a top employer for gay staff. The index shows the top 100 companies within the UK with Metropolitan not only moving up from a position of 92 to 33, but also has increased their score percentage, up from 64% to 82%.
The score carries added significance as the minimum score necessary to reach the Top 100 has also increased to 71%, almost 10% higher than in 2007. Metropolitan is also the only G15 member to reach the top 100 and came second out of the eleven housing associations that submitted to the Stonewall WEI.
Nigel Wrightson, Chair of METRO, Metropolitan's LGBT network says: "MHP's improved ranking in this year's index is a terrific result, and really demonstrates how a staff network group like METRO can make a positive contribution to advancing an organisation's thinking, not only in providing a good environment for staff, but in the services it provids as well".
Liz Hughes, Head of HR, says: 'While we are very proud of our accomplishments, we still wish to improve. We aim to create best practice and go beyond just having policies. We are the only G15 member to reach the top 100 and for us that is significant. London is such a diverse city and we wish to reflect that in all aspects of our operations'.
Mark Austin, Managing Director of MST says: "I am very proud of Stonewall's recognition for the way in which we have worked with our LGB staff to make it a great place for them to work, and be themselves. Participation in the Index has also challenged us to think innovatively about the way that we approach the whole diversity agenda, in ways that will benefit our staff and our customers".
