Local resident commemorated at re-opening of Sky City community centre
Terry Bennett will be honoured at the re-opening of a newly improved community centre in Wood Green’s Sky City estate on Thursday 13th November from 2 - 6pm. The new facilities at the community centre are being installed in memory of Terry, who recently passed away, and was know for his involvement and work within the local community. There will be an official opening of the new garden area at 3pm on the day which includes 2 new benches, one with a plaque dedicated to Terry.
Tottenham Hotspurs footballer Jamie O'Hara, Terry's team, will be a guest of honour, opening the new facilities. He will deliver sessions to the young people on the day, cut the ribbon for the launch of the area and taking part in a clean up operation in the area. Local ward councillors including the Mayor of Haringey, Alan Dobbie will also be attending the event.
The event will be to celebrate Terry's work and to promote its continuation amongst local residents through involvement opportunities. The day will also include information and initiatives around sport, healthy living, gardening and job seeking for people of all ages.
Former neighbourhood Officer Robert Passmore says: ‘Terry was the treasurer for the Residents Association and had lived on the estate since it opened. In the time that I was Neighbourhood Officer there he consistently went out of his way to introduce schemes and projects at the community centre and were it not for him it would have been largely unused. Everyone on the estate knew Terry and he was immensely well liked.
