Metropolitan Housing Trust London to award 'Unsung Heroes'

MHT London launches it's first-ever residents awards to recognise and celebrate the positive impact that individuals can make to their communities. There will be three categories of awards, Good Neighbour, Youth Achievement and Green & Clean Awards each of which giving winners a certificate and £250 prize.

Award nominations are being accepted from both individuals and groups and are being taken until 31s July. Details on criteria for entry, how entries will be short listed and winners chosen for each category are available from residents newsletter, MHTimes, and also online.

The judging panel will consist of residents and MHT London staff and the shortlist will be announced in September 2008, with the winners being selected in December 2008. It is hoped the awards will encourage residents to get more involved in their communities and foster a sense of involvement.

The awards form part of a series of initiatives as part of the merger of MHT North and South London regions into one business. The merger will see MHT London manage over 16,000 homes in 40 London boroughs. The aim of bringing together two regions is to provide residents enjoy better value for money services and create a more streamlined organisation.

Neil Mawson, who was recently appointed Managing Director, said: 'The merger marks an important stage in the development and growth of MHT. Our focus has always been providing better services to our residents and this new stage in our development goes towards achieving that aim'

Phyllida Culpin, Regeneration Director, says of the awards: 'There are many residents that are doing great things within their communities and not recognised. We wish to acknowledge these 'unsung heroes' and their contributions.'
