Metropolitan Housing Partnership and sustainability
Tackling climate change and environmental sustainability has been described as the most urgent challenge of our generation.
A lot of what housing associations do already intrinsically supports the sustainability agenda. As a large social housing organisation, Metropolitan Housing Partnership has recognised that it has a significant environmental impact resulting from its existing stock, new developments, care and support services and housing management functions. Responsible management of these impacts is contributing to the overall aim of decreasing the effects of climate change and creating sustainable communities wherever they operate.
We are keen to make sustainability more accessible and relevant, both to staff and to our customers. By getting the basics right, we aim to be more efficient, economical and effective, and to deliver on our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment.
MHP has had a corporate commitment to sustainability since 2004, supported by a comprehensive strategy and action plan. A Housing Quality Network case study by Matthew Bush, MHP's Environmental Sustainability Manager, summarises what we have achieved since then and where we are heading.
